Acceptable use policy

This policy forms part of the terms of service. Most of it is what you would expect. The first section is not, and it is the one that matters most here.

In effect from 2026-09-09

Specific to this service

Because of what Unitwise is, you must not:

  • use output from this service in a complaint about a retailer, in a public accusation against a retailer, or to suggest that any shop has priced, labelled or displayed anything improperly;
  • hold output from this service out as a statement about food safety, shelf life, edibility, spoilage, storage safety, nutrition or health — it is none of those things and never has been;
  • present output from this service as professional advice of any kind, or as a recommendation to buy;
  • upload photographs containing identifiable people;
  • attempt to get around the redaction of store names, or to re-identify the shop a redacted photograph came from;
  • use the service to build a price-comparison, price-monitoring or retailer-ranking product, whether by hand or automatically.

Unlawful and harmful use

  • Anything that breaks the law, or infringes someone else’s intellectual property or privacy.
  • Defaming, harassing or threatening anyone, including any business or its staff.
  • Uploading material that sexualises or endangers a child. This is reported to the authorities.
  • Impersonating another person, or impersonating Unitwise or its staff.
  • Fraud, scams, phishing, or fabricating evidence of any kind.

High-risk settings

Do not use the service, or anything it produces, for medical, legal or financial decisions, for food safety, in safety-critical systems, or in automated decisions affecting employment, credit, insurance, housing or criminal justice.

Abuse of the service itself

  • Getting around rate limits, the credit allowance or access controls.
  • Scraping, reverse engineering, or reselling access.
  • Sharing one account between people, or reselling an account.
  • Running automated traffic against the service.
  • Anything that degrades the service for other people.

Legal and export restrictions

The service is available worldwide, and you are responsible for complying with the law where you are. You may not use it if you are subject to UK, EU or US sanctions, or where doing so would breach export control law.

What happens if this policy is broken

Depending on what has happened we may warn you, restrict a feature, suspend the account, or close it. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right. Serious cases — child safety in particular — are acted on immediately and reported.

If we close a paid account for a reason that turns out not to be your fault, we refund the unused part of the period you have paid for. Closing an account for a breach of this policy does not affect your statutory rights.
